Black bears are dangerous creatures and as people encroach upon their territory and try to co-habitat with them by feeding them!! There’s a real danger from them attacking humans and domestic animals. If you have a problem with black bears here are some ways to deter them:
- There are products on the market today to help you keep hungry bears away from you and your home or business. Search the internet for these products.
- There are lots of things you can do to deter a black bear from approaching or hanging around your property. Some deterrents automatically provide negative feedback to bears when they approach your property or specific attractants, such as honey from bee hives or fruit trees. Others are manually deployed, helping you to deter a bold or aggressive bear’s approach with noisemakers, flares, pepper spray or projectiles. Some of these tools can help to effectively haze or aversively condition bears.
- Whatever tools you choose to protect yourself and your property, use direct eye contact and have a take charge attitude!
- Always ensure that the bear has a clear and safe escape route with no people or obstacles in its way. If the bear has no way to escape unobstructed, the bear may interpret your barriers as an aggressive move on your part and stand its ground in self-defense.
We highly recommend hiring a wildlife removal professional to perform the work for you.
